Washi Taped AC Unit

I've posted about washi tape before on the blog (like this cute little project) and if you follow my instagram feed, you've seen some washi pics here and there. I'm obsessed with the stuff! My latest project came about as a way to hide some ugly in the shop- the horrible wall AC unit that is right behind my desk. With such a tiny shop, it was an eye-sore that jumped right out at me when I looked around. I originally wanted to build some sort of screen cover for it that would allow the air flow but hide as much of this beast as possible, but my hubby was just not on board and I couldn't figure out exactly what I wanted. Then one day I was using my tapes to 'frame' some pretty post cards I wanted to hang up, and it hit me! I'd tape the AC unit!

The AC unit before, and I swear it's even uglier in person!

I used two different size tapes, the standard and some ultra skinny tape I picked up at a Japanese bookstore in San Francisco a few months back. I found some of the skinny tape on Etsy here

It just took me a few minutes. I wiped off as much of the dust as I could and then applied the tape. Washi tape comes off easily, so I was able to pull it off and adjust when needed, and of course when ever we move out, I'll be able to remove the tape with no problems! I've received a lot of compliments and questions from customers since putting it up, so I think it was a success. It may be a little cheesy, but it's better than it was before! Plus it works with the playful tone of the shop.

The view from the front door.

Do you love it? Too cheesy? Would you consider this as an option to covering up your own ugly AC unit? I could see this working in a home if you used all one color that matched the wall or the decor. Especially for renters, I think this is a great option!
