Grab a friend and come get crafty at Strands of Sunshine! No experience is needed to take this fun jewelry making workshop, and you’ll leave with a completed necklace or bracelet!

Learn a technique traditionally used to create high-end pearl necklaces, where the beads are strung onto a cord with a knot tied in between each bead. This protects the beads from rubbing and scratching each other. It also means that if the strand should break, only one bead will fall off and the rest of the necklace will stay in tact. Strands of Sunshine’s owner, Amy Marshall, has over 10 years of jewelry making experience, and is particularly in love with this technique and applying it to modern jewelry design. Amy will guide students through the steps of creating their own necklace or bracelet. An assortment of beads will be available to choose from, along with silk cord in a variety of colors. It’s not necessary to bring anything, but if you do have some special beads you’d like to bring for consideration, feel free to do so.

Registration is $35. All supplies and tools will be provided. Seating is limited and classes are intimate so that students get plenty of personal assistance! Feel free to bring a snack or beverage. Class will take place from 6:30pm-8:30 pm. Ages 18+ unless specifically approved by instructor.

Cancellation Policy:
Five days’ notice is required in order to receive in-store credit or to reschedule your class.
If canceling less than five days prior to class, a refund may be given if we can fill your spot from the waiting list. A class may be canceled due to lack of sign-ups. If your class is canceled, we will notify you two days prior to the scheduled class.

ArtWalk-Saturday Aug. 12

ArtWalk-Saturday Aug. 12

For the third consecutive year, Strands of Sunshine is excited to partner with Creative Clay artists for a special ArtWalk!

‘Sweet Somethings’ features the artwork of two of Creative Clay’s studio artists, Carolyn R. and Emily M. With very different artistic styles, the rhythm of their work together vibrates in color and design.

Carolyn’s work includes ceramics from her Totem Series, fiber art puppets and paintings, all created in her unique fanciful style drawing the viewer into a colorful world. Emily’s acrylic paintings are made in her signature technique of small curls that she then smears to give depth. Emily describes her artwork as “fun!,” and says, “inside my art is exciting!”

Please join us for a meet-the-artists reception during ArtWalk on Aug. 12, 5 -9 pm.
Exhibit runs through Sept. 6.

ABOUT CREATIVE CLAY:
Our mission is to help people with disabilities achieve full and inclusive lives through access to the arts by providing expressive, educational and vocational experiences.

Creative Clay’s core program is its Community Arts Program, which serves 50-60 adult artists with neuro-differences each week. Through the implementation of additional offerings, such as the inclusive Art Around the World summer camp, Summer Studio for older teens and young adults, Artlink employment program, Creative Care Arts in Wellness outreach program, and its Pinellas County Schools’ partnership Transition program, individuals of all ages and abilities are mentored, taught and empowered to become working artists who actively create, market and sell their work. The end result is that a formerly stigmatized population, through the art it creates and sells, demystifies stereotypes surrounding those with disabilities and creates a culture of acceptance throughout the community.
